HIFU Skin Tightening in Cambridge

HIFU — high intensity focused ultrasound — works on the structure of the skin, lifting and tightening tissue that has become lax. It is a non-surgical treatment with minimal downtime, sometimes called the lunchtime facelift, and it is available at Seven Oaks Skin Therapy in Cambridge.

What HIFU Does

What it treats

Skin structure — lifting, tightening and contouring lax skin.

How it works

HIFU delivers ultrasound energy between 3mm and 4.5mm into the skin's dermis, ensuring tightening through the deeper layers of the skin to provide long-lasting results. Unlike laser or surgical procedures, HIFU bypasses the upper layers of the skin to deliver the right amount of energy at the right depths and temperature. This causes a controlled injury that triggers the body's own collagen remodelling response — resulting in a visible lift over weeks to months.

Best for

Clients over 35 seeking a lift or tightening of the jawline, chin, brow or neck who are not wanting a surgical facelift, or those looking to prevent or slow down the facial ageing process. It is also well suited to loose or lax skin on the body — areas such as the abdomen, upper arms and above the knees — where clients want firming without surgery.

The result

A structural lift — tighter jawline, less jowling, lifted brow, firmer neck, or on the body, firmer and more contoured skin in the treated area. Results continue improving for up to 12 months post-treatment.

Downtime

Minimal — sometimes described as the 'Lunchtime Facelift' as the treatment is quick, tolerable and has no downtime. Some clients experience mild redness or tenderness temporarily.

Course

An initial course of two treatments spaced 8 weeks apart, followed by a maintenance treatment every 9–12 months to sustain results.

The Evidence

What The Research Shows

A 2025 systematic review in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal pooled 45 clinical trials and cohort studies published between 2010 and 2024. It found meaningful improvement in skin laxity of roughly 18 to 30 per cent, strongest in the lower face, neck and periorbital area. For body treatment it reported a reduction in circumference of 2.5 to 4.5cm, mostly abdomen and thighs. On safety, fewer than 5 per cent of patients reported side effects, and those were transient — redness, swelling or mild discomfort.

The same review is candid about the gaps: protocols are not yet standardised across devices and practitioners. Worth knowing, and worth being wary of anyone who tells you otherwise. The review also notes better outcomes when HIFU is paired with other modalities, which is why for some clients we suggest combining it with EXION.

What HIFU Cannot Do

HIFU lifts and tightens, but it will not remove significant excess skin or replace a surgical facelift. It does not treat pigmentation, texture or fine surface lines — those need different treatments, and we would tell you so rather than sell you a course that was never going to help.

It is also not an instant result. Because it works by prompting your own collagen remodelling, the lift builds over weeks to months. Clients who expect a transformation at two weeks are often disappointed, and delighted at three months. Worth knowing in advance.

HIFU or EXION?

Both build collagen, but they work differently and suit different concerns. HIFU is about structure — lifting a jawline, tightening a neck. EXION works on skin quality — firmness, texture, hydration and tone — using radiofrequency and ultrasound with AI-regulated energy delivery. Some clients benefit from both, sequenced across a year. Which you need depends on whether your concern is the shape of your face or the quality of your skin, and that is what a consultation establishes. Seven Oaks is currently the only EXION provider in Cambridge, so we are able to offer either.

Common Questions

How many treatments will I need?

An initial course of two treatments spaced eight weeks apart, then maintenance every 9–12 months.

Does it hurt?

Most clients find it tolerable — a warm, occasionally prickling sensation at depth. There is no numbing required and no downtime afterwards.

How soon will I see a difference?

Some tightening is often noticeable within a few weeks, with the lift continuing to develop for up to twelve months.

Can I have HIFU on my body?

Yes — abdomen, upper arms and above the knees are the areas we treat most often, where clients want firming without surgery.

Where are you based?

347 Racecourse Road, Cambridge, a few minutes from Cambridge township and under fifteen from Hamilton East. We see clients from across the Waikato.
